I went into Set Scan Selection and then Select Lists to Monitor, I toggled off two counties and when I returned to scanning, I’m still scanning those counties and hearing them. I know I don’t want to toggle off any service types, because I’ll then not hear those agencies for the counties I do want to monitor.

If I can’t disable counties in Select Lists to Monitor, do I want to press avoid for everything I’m not interested in when the scanner stops on them or am I going about it the wrong way?

you can if you program them to scan lists...all of one county on one scan list i have my scanner set so individual services are on separate scan lists..... im assuming that you have a whistler scanner...

I have set Stark and Wayne to off as shown in the image below, but I'm still getting traffic.

It's supposed to work the way you think it is. If you're still getting agencies from those counties they're probably on the lists you have enabled. Just because the list is labeled with the name of the county doesn't mean the systems on that list are limited to that county. When you're first getting used to things it can be easy to add systems to the wrong list.

I'd suggest working at this the other way. Turn on just one list at a time. If the agencies you don't want show up you'll then know which list to look at.

That's what I figured is going on. I'll give your suggestion a try.

Thanks.

FWIW - you are greatly increasing the scan time. The 3 shown, Tusc, Cosh and OSP are really scanning the same thing 3 times. Put it all in one list and use quick keys to turn on.

I set up QK with the county number - Cosh = 16, Tusc = 79 , OSP = 89 (or something).

Make sure you don't have ID Search on or you will get "stuff" not on the list.

It's my first day with this scanner and while I've learned to do some things, I don't think I'm ready for that yet. Also, I didn't do the programing on it, so I have no idea what's where.

Can I just hold on the unwanted channels and press avoid?

Note that sites in adjacent counties may capture radio traffic from neighboring counties ... I hear Wayne and Stark agencies on the Summit simulcast towers.

Sure - be aware that if you write from Sentinel you lose those avoids. You can read from the scanner to put them in Sentinel, that way they show in Sentinel as avoided (in red).

I've found that what works for me is toggling off all counties and monitoring MARCS-IP and OSP lists because everything I want to monitor are on those lists. Once I've switched to that and doing some temporary avoids, I'm getting it to where I want it to be.

Don't forget that temporary avoids will clear upon rebooting (Turning off and on) the scanner...
Double hit the avoid button to make them permanent if you wish... You can always remove the avoids in sentinel or the scanner itself...

Yeah, I did all the avoids I intended to and forgot to put it back on charge. After I got my shower I noticed it was powered off and I have to do it all over again.
No big deal though, it's all part of the hobby.

One more question, can I add ODOT talkgroups by hand or do I have to use Sentinel.

I have about everything I want on the favorites list I have, but I'm thinking I'd like a few ODOT districts as well.

Sure - just append with Sentinel
