• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

So I'm completely clueless when it comes to radios. I want to add a bluetooth connector to the Motorola VX-P949. I tried to search online but I couldn't find anything. I asked around at work and no one has a clue. I figured I'd make an account here and see if anyone here can offer a suggestion. Thanks in advance.

You might try Pryme and Otto who make BT adaptors. Also that radio might be same as APX900 Motorola radio. In which case BT may be built in.

Hey idk if posting links to EBay is allowed so I’ll just with words then share if it’s ok …

from what I understand correct me
If I’m wrong the Vertex Standard Brand VX-P949 is NYPD exclusive and unless you’re name is NYPD or NYC they are impossible to get?

Now if you come across one for sale online.. should one become a bit suspicious?

Utter nonsense. If the radio is NOT STOLEN, it is not "illegal" for a "civilian" to own anything that isn't contraband.
Yeah not saying it’s stolen but something that was never put on the market for anyone other then a specific agency does raise eyebrows

I believe slight cosmetic changes like the PTT and side buttons are slightly different, or at least they were.

I think the only reason it's rebranded was because of the Vertex Standard contract. Motorola could sell them APX900's labeled "Vertex Standard" and they are good to go.

From the topic and the way the question I was worded, I'm thinking he is an NYPD officer asking about his radio.

That's my take as well. Assuming malice and/or incompetence is neither helpful nor necessary, unless it's something egregious like that guy wanting to use CHIRP to program an XTS3000 for NAS.

Asking coworkers about accessories for an issued tool used on duty makes perfect sense. Asking coworkers about accessories for a radio of dubious origin makes quite a bit less sense.
