I have been given the opportunity to buy a mint BC796D. I have spent a few hours on google and this forum and I can't seem to find a confirmed answer. I read the manual and it states P25 Phase I, but can the BC796D work with P25 Phase II? Specifically I want to use it to scan the TxWARN P25 system linked here. Thanks.

No, there is 1 radio that can listen to P25 Phase 2, and that is the PSR-800.

Thank y'all for your quick responses. Maybe im getting the terminology wrong. The system I linked in my OP has this listed:
"System Type: Project 25 Phase II
System Voice: APCO-25 Common Air Interface Exclusive"

My uniden 396Ts scan that system just fine, so its not phase II. I guess that means the BC796D can also scan that system?

I believe the system is going to phase II, just hasn't been done in some areas. I can't say for sure. The only scanner on the market that will decode Phase II is the the PSR-800 with the applicable firmware upgrade, as was indicated above. I am actually interested in trying a BC796D on our N-WIN system here in Nebraska to see if the custom tables indicated there will work in that scanner.

Ok now I have a better understanding of the situation. So what im trying to ask is if the BC796D can follow the TxWARN P25 system and pickup all the Phase I talk groups?

Yes, all of the non-encrypted Phase 1 TG's.

I thought the 796D wasn't re-banding compatible but after reading a little just now I see it IS. Funny I never realized that until just now. I just assumed because the 780 & 785D was not that the 796D wouldn't be either.

I've got a 780xlt and although it's not even digital capable, it is not re-banding compatible and I can't use it on my local 800 MHz stuff with the exception of the nuclear power plant, which uses a 900 MHz trunking system. It receives that system just fine but 900 MHz wasn't affected by the re-banding effort. Aside from that it serves as a nice conventional, analog scanner

No. The GRE PSR-800 (when you load the beta firmware) is the only scanner that can monitor P25 Phase II.

Too Bad for the HP-1

It's really a shame Uniden didn't incorporate the ability to at least upgrade the HP-1 for P25 Phase II capability. Given the time frame it was introduced I really would have thought they would've made this model capable of something as important as this. This really makes the PSR-800 a rather unique scanner in that it's the ONLY one capable of this (after a firmware flash of course).

I wonder if the PSR-900 was going to have this ability as well - if it ever made it into production. Sadly, that's another story :(
