I noticed that a few of my local Public Safety's are in the process of switching over to a rebanded EDACS ProVoice digital trunking system. If it's purely digital, and not encrypted will i be able to recieve it and track it just fine. Someone mentioned to me that no scanner can recieve it. I hope they were just talking about recieving encrypted signals, as that would make sense.

As far as I am aware, the answer would be no. The 106 will do analog EDACS with ESK but not ProVoice. There may be someone that can clarify. But, everything I have been told is that no scanner will track ProVoice... And my thought is that would be both digital and encrypted ProVoice.

I hate ProVoice! I used to be able to monitor Florida Highway Patrol and thanks to ProVoice, that is no longer the case. Stupid ProVoice! :(

No scanner can receive EDACS ProVoice.

That stinks,

I know the PRO-106 has a powerful DSP and pro-voice capability could probably be easily added in with firmware. But on the down side, if added in that would mean that every Software (Win 500, ARC500, etc) available would also have to be updated for pro-voice use and this could possibly have a conflict with some of the softwares older files. Another point to make, who knows how much memory is even left inside of the 500/PRO-106 for newly added features. I wonder what the final word on pro-voice is from GRE with reguards to the 500/106, are they even thinking about adding it in?

I also have to wonder if the newly vampted Uniden 396 due out will be capable of recieving pro-voice. It seems like almost daily now, that more and more public safety organizations are moving to pro-voice due to the fact that they know current scanners can't recieve it. Is it really that complicated of a setup?

Oh well, you purchase a new scanner and already it's obsolete on some current systems!! :(

Provoice will never be available. Never, ever, period. M/A-COM will not release the patent to allow scanners to receive provoice. M/A-COM uses that as a major selling point.

Maybe that EMT in Texas can try using that as an affirmative defense for causing him to swipe a REAL radio--;)

Ok, so it's not going to happen uless M/A-COM releases there patent. I guess maybe the next version of GRE's 500/106 will see it, or not see it!

All in all, I really don't think M/A-COM Pro-Voice is doing any law officials any favors. If i was working at a Local PD or State Highway Patrol that used soley Pro-Voice, then all surrounding city/town agencies would be left out in the dark as to what is currently going on. Unless through the use of an intercity channel (which may be too late to help), or by themselfs having a dedicated radio to listen on.

So what is everyone that has Pro-Voice agencies in there local area doing? Have you guys found any work-arounds/simulcast frequencies to listen to them on?
