Sometimes I want to just scan some freqs and see if I can get anything. But the RANGE seems to be a squelch setting that gets in the way. Is there anything to turn this feature off? I have a HP-1.

Thanks

Just make a favorites list with those frequencies you want try and receive.

I did, but some of these are in neighboring counties and are farther than 30 miles. I want to scan those freqs anyway and see what is out there. The RANGE won't let the scan continue.

Turn location control off in that favorites list.

Open sentinel Right click on the favorites list. Select program favorites list click on the options tab and set location control to no.

I'm just having to run out but I will try this later today. I have been using ARC-PATROL and not Sentinel. I didn't see this feature in AP. It may be there but I just didn't see it.
Many thanks. I'll get back and let you know how this works.

Just to clarify.

In the database, everything has a location with a location type (default circle) and a numerical value.
When you enable location control, these are used by the radio to turn on/off systems/depts./sites according to your location.
There is also rectangles, which allow much more precise control, but that is for another discussion.

The range location in setting sometimes needs a bit of explanation.
Say, a system/dept/site has a range of 20 miles.
And, you have your radio's range setting as 5 miles.
Your radio will turn this system/dept/site on at 25 miles.
In other words, whatever range your radio is set at will be ADDED to whatever amount is in the RR database.

Example:
Because I use fairly precisely defined rectangles to outline the boundaries of my various systems/depts. I have my range set to zero.

Following your instructions, when I get to OPTIONS I see the following choices: System Name, Avoid, System Type and ID Search....there is no "location control" option. I am running Sentinal 2.03 rev 2

Your location control is located in the "Profile Editor".

From the top menu bar in Sentinel, click edit, then edit profile, then click on the favorites list tab. You will see the location control settings there.

You would set a Favorites List Location Control to On/Off when you are in the Favorites List editor, at the Favorites List level. I believe you may be at the System level. That is why you cannot see the Location Control option.

The Profile Editor allows you to see what the Location Control setting is, but you cannot change it. That can only done in the Favorites List editor.

The OP stated that he has the HP-1 scanner, and is using Sentinel V2.03 rev 2 - which is the Home Patrol version of Sentinel.

For that version of Sentinel, the location control is indeed set in the profile editor as mentioned in my post above, not in the favorites list editor.

That seemed to work. Many thanks. I did have to delete the favorite list and reload it from an online copy via sentinal and download it as opposed to just overwriting. In any case, it does work.
