Can you hear the Denver Public Safety from Parker?

Or is it too far out to pick up Denver systems / public safety on a handheld scanner with a regular antenna?
Im guessing an outdoor antenna maybe needed.

Im guessing there isnt too much exciting action happening in Parker so was hoping to get all the Denver Public Safety Systems, just not sure of the range.

Background - Im thinking of moving to Parker...
Im looking for a home around the area of N Delbert / E BuckBoard (Coals Creek / Pikes Peak Rd area)

Which scanner are you using? Denver now uses ESK. I was just north of Denver (Westminster) yesterday and my PSR500 with the Radio Shack 800MHz rubber duck antenna and I could not pick up Denver.

Thats scary
The system according to RR map is suppose to get 30 miles (Boulder to Castle Rock basically)
or almost all the way to Longmount. If your not getting it in Westminster thats not good.

It will be a 396T (with the newest firmware) or a PSR-500
Ill decide when I get there.
I knew about the ESK - thanks for the heads up though

Yes, you can monitor Denver from Parker. I would highly recommend an outdoor antenna to improve your signal. FYI, you can not monitor the DIA system from Parker.

I live near E470 and Smoky Hill and I can hear Denver with the stock Rubber Duck and even better with the 800MHz duck I bought from Radio Shack.

Used to hear Denver in Cheyenne, WY easily but that was when they were still on Morrison, sorry just memories.

My boundaries now for Denver EDACS are Deer Trail, Monument Hill, Floyd Hill and Longmont.

Now the online sources are also a great resource for many departments these days as well.

Ahh, the good old days of being able to monitor Denver with nothing more than a rubber duck in my living room in Wellington... Thanks for the memories Jim:) Good thing I am in Denver now.

That is wierd. I live in Broomfield and get Denver ok with a 396t, not great. Were you getting no signal at all?

I can get it up here in Greeley with decent conditions. Generally in the morning and the evening. I listen in as I drive to work in the tech center and can get them going down I-25, but there are a number of black holes where I can't get jack for signal. Also, the Thornton/Northglenn area I seem to get a lot of interference so it sounds like poo. In the truck I'm using the Radio Shack thru-the-glass antenna (works *OK*) and at home I use the Radio Shack 800MHz rubber duck (works pretty good).

I was at 120th & Pecos inside a townhome on the ground floor. I didn't really try outside because I had the Pro 95 set up for Westy, and we were all into the Broncos game.

Denver sure can't use their system like the old days for mobile survellance where the perps head very far out of town. I assume they are using some of their radios that will also do the state system. I have heard them a few times on it. They don't seem to use the ITAC channels too much anymore either.

Parker/Antennas

I'm listening to Denver right now. Have a 396T and the signal is solid, all bars on receive with no fluctuation of signal. I get good signals on either of the rubber duck antennas I use: Antenex 1/2 wave, Antenex 1/4 wave stubby (2 inches tall), both cut for 850 Mhz. If you tend to have signal problems and you're using the stock antenna, I would recommend the Antenex antennas or Radio Shack's 800Mhz ducky. The Antenex antennas are available with SMA connector. For the Radio Shack antenna, you'll need to use the BNC adapter. The Antenex antennas are available directly through Antenex or through Scanner Master. My experience is that you won't need an outside antenna such as a discone in Parker if you have a decent rubber duck, although the discone would be quite nice.

I suspect that they are roaming on other area EDACS systems as well as I've heard 6xx series and Stargate/RED/BLUE TG's on DIA, Aurora, Lakewood and Westy systems almost on a regular basis. DFD-1 for DIA appears full time on Lakewood's Green Mtn site.

Yes even Aurora. I botched the TG series in the earlier msg it's the 16x series that is showing up as well. DIA started doing this around the time of the DNC convention and continues to.

Last night I was listening on Denver edacs to some secret squirrel stuff coming in on the MGTF talkgroup. they were all over the north metro area from 84th to 128th Aves. It was so clear I wonder if they were roaming onto other systems like Arvada-Westm.?--but probably still works if you can hear it in Greeley sometimes. By the way the simulcast site at 52nd-Zuni has not been used yet, should be up shortly. I thought they were all up from the beginning.
