HOW are they doing this,

I downloaded the latest version
which is 10 years old ! a free trial and I could not get it to work on my BCD536hp

The latest version is 10 days old, not 10 years.

ProScan Version 23.5 Just Released!
  • Added - Favorite Name to the System/Site column in the History, Recorder, & UID grids.
  • Added - Bypass 'Frequency Out Of Range' Check option.
  • Fixed - RRDB Differences function is more reliable. It's important to note that other instances of ProScan using the Favorites Lists have to be at version 23.5 or above else the RRDB Differences function will not work.
  • Fixed - Database 'Note' and 'Record' (on unsupported Record scanners) fields at the channel level are more reliable in retaining the data after a download from the scanner.
  • Fixed - Scanner Sizable Window - Knobs weren't turning when dragging the mouse within the knobs.
  • Fixed - BC125AT, UBC125XLT, & UBC126AT scanner - Lookup Record Flag From Database wasn't working.
  • Fixed - BCD536HP and SDS200 RTSP LAN audio wasn't working with the MediaMTX media server.

As mentioned above, the latest version of ProScan (23.5) was released less than 2 weeks ago and fully supports the BCD436HP and BCD536HP (it has supported them for a long time).

ProScan software is one of the most frequently upgraded and improved software packages of any kind that you will find anywhere. As far as I remember, ProScan was first released sometime around 2008, and has been updated well in excess of 100 times since then.

The author of ProScan is a long time member of Radio Reference and has given extensive support and assistance to countless members here.

There is an official Proscan support thread here:

As others have mentioned, download ProScan directly from the source:
