Hello,

I bought a Motorola XPR 7580 to be used as a scanner for Police/Fire(who I work for) in my area. Is the XPR 7580 capable of being programmed to do so? How do you program the talkgroup ID to the frequency? I do have access to Mototrbo (Legally).

Great radio for conventional and DMR. It will NOT work for P25. its a different protocol and is not supported.
Its also 800/900mhz radio.
You dont mention what your local police or fire use. Are they VHF, UHF, 700/800? Conventional P25? Trunking P25? Type 1 Type 2?

As KevinC pointed out.
If they are Phase 2 then they are on a trunking system.
So Your new toy will not do P25, It will not do P25 trunking Phase 1 or Phase 2.

Based on what has been said so far, return it or sell it and buy a good scanner.

I'm trying to find the right scanner to do simulcast distortion stuff. So far none of the Unidens compare to the G4 with this issue. Get the scanning banks beta done with. But haven't had a problem like some people claim with the scanning hold and back to scan just change to a different channel.
