no HF or GPS for a few days at a time. hope they don't plan on using this thing to many times, that is even if they can get it to work in the first place.

Years ago the USAF actually had a funded proposal to research the possibility and potential of developing - I kid you not - a technology to 'transport' people and materials using beams of some kind of high-energy particle something or other.
The theory being to 'beam' people and whatever equipment around instantly.
(if you can beam yourself anywhere you want at nearly the speed of light, what equipment do you really need?? make that kind of arrival and even the dumbest enemy will just say "Wow - very nice. I surrender..")

Somehow the USAF went through $250,000 before the project was axed. Maybe Star Fleet refused to share the technology - who knows.

I wouldn't worry too much about this one either...

but really this has had so much bad press it wont happen and the gov. committee that runs gps would never allow it cause they would have to sign off on a scheduled disruption.... consider every other airliner is now dual gps equiped and the faa cant wait to get rid of vortacs.

bigger concern to me is the idiot in china
