Canada Day listening in Ottawa may be less interesting than previous years...shall see.

Temperture is supposed to hit 36C with 47C humidex (nuts)(did I hear it right?); good weather
to stay close to home, and listen. EC weather for Ottawa is not working (figures); closest one
is Laurentides 162.475 .

Ottawa P25 already has lots of ENC activity on TG 2721-2724 which I figure is EMS; but
have no confirmation.

RCMP portable system is not around this year.

NCC is on DMR System 201 Site 1, current CC is 463.6875.

Slight enhanced propagation this morning, nothing exciting.

On EDACS, saw brief activity on EMS5 (TG 729) which sounded digital. Usual PD TG activity so far.
LCN 1 is active again.

On P25 some enc activity on 30xx TGs.

Snowbird flyover heard on 272.100 AM as usual, starting about 1210h.

A bit of mildly interesting activity on LTR 451.9750 (Direct Access), may be connected to
Jazz Festival.

Snowbirds came back at around 1730h for about 30 minutes, heard again on 272.100, also on
118.800 and 128.175.

Is that FleetNet EMS that has gone encrypted or something Ottawa specific?

Just wondering if that's another round of ENC about spread across Ontario

That is for EMS special operations previously using EDACS, regular EMS remains on Fleetnet. As for another round, arguably, as EMS was clear before; and Ottawa Police are expected to be 100% enc. on P25, evidence of it now.

Paramedic Spec Ops is definitely encrypted. And about half a dozen of the TGs were in use on Canada Day (some busier than others). That probably maps to the 27xx TGs.

The Paramedic Service doesn't even own any more of the old EDACs portables. All were "returned" when the new ones were swapped in.

My bet is the attitude on encryption is less about a "need" so much as it's a simple checkbox with no obvious loss of audio quality. So more a "why not?" attitude.

And presumably "because scanner owners will be miffed" isn't an adequate answer. :->

I heard a small number of transmissions on TG 272x in the clear, but not enough to make any positive ID.

Sometime other TGs (like some OC Transpo) momentarily go enc. Not sure how much manual control they have for this from the radios, possibly sending sensitive info? Or maybe it's a system anomaly.
