Same, until someone from the area can give you some more precise info.
They monitor 16 (156.8000) (distress channel) if someone calls on it they will say go to CH ??, also they will make an announcement there, go to channel ?? for broadcast. So start with ch 16 then find the frequency for the channel the say to go to.

So the Canadian Coast Guard doesn't have it's own SECURE VHF/UHF (Non VHF Marine) nets, as the US Coast Guard does ?

Anyone know what freq's they may use in Lake Huron and Superior?
No idea were you would pick up Canadian Coast Guard in your area of the woods but I think the best way for you to find them is scan the full marine band because they will come up on a lot of different frequencies they use for working frequencies. Down in Fort Erie, I pick up coast guard on many different frequencies, there are a lot of the frequencies that are now encrypted and you will not be able to listen to some of the frequencies. Just to give you an idea of how many frequencies I pick up the coast guard on, this is my list.
345.0000 COAST GUARD OPERATIONS PRIMARY CH-16 ONTARIO CANADA AM
244.1000 BUFFALO NY?? COAST GUARD HELICOPTER/?? AIRCRAFT AROUND HEAR, MILITARY AIRCRAFT AM

173.4750 COAST GUARD BUFFALO NY 167 NAC P25E
173.1000 COAST GUARD BUFFALO NY 293 NAC P25
165.2625 COAST GUARD BUFFALO NY 293 NAC P25E

157.0750 CH 81A - PORT OPERATION (CANADIAN COAST GUARD) ONTARIO WIDE FM
157.0500 CH 21 – COAST GUARD HELICOPTER SEARCH AND RESCUE ONTARIO WIDE FM
156.8000 CH 16 – DISTRESS/SAFETY/CALLING @ PRESCOTT RADIO/COAST GUARD BUFFALO,FM
156.2750 CH 65A - PORT OPERATION (CANADIAN COAST GUARD) PRESCOTT RADIO ONTARIO WIDE FM
156.2000 CH 4A - CANADIAN COAST GUARD ONTARIO WIDE FM
156.1250 CH 62A - CANADIAN COAST GUARD ONTARIO WIDE FM
418.4500 COAST GUARD BUFFALO NY 293 NAC P25
413.8250 COAST GUARD BUFFALO NY 293 NAC FMN
The best way to find any frequencies in your area is take the time and do searches, yes it will take time but in the end you will know what frequencies you are able to pick up from your location with your radio setup and antenna.

Out west, we have CCG assets (hovercraft etc) that have no level of P25 or other comm, compared to the US that I know of. (based on a list I read online that referred to the radios on board, and RCMSAR) Both work together, but one is volunteer.

Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue | RCMSAR | East Sooke BC are the predominant quick response group
I see a license Canada wide of 464.1625 (Analog) which I believe you would have to be on top of in order to hear it. When I hear the MAYDAY over here, CCG ask for public assistance of the myriad of boats that ply the water.

Last night, less than a few miles from the Hovercraft base, CCG called for assistance from nearby boaters transiting Fraser River for a man in water (possibly suicidal) that would not get out of water.

I am not anywhere near any of the lakes, but I have heard. Ch 16 and 68 are monitored and used regularly. I believe that actual SAR coordination is done via cellphones until on-scene, then a marine freq or other coordinated frequency is used.
My understanding is if its marine related, expect to hear on the marine band, if aircraft related expect for one of the aviation SAR frequencies to be used.

No, our Coast Guard uses regular VHF marine channels for their work.

I'd check 157.125, 157.150 and 157.175MHz for SAR activity.
Explains that I need to concentrate on the VHF Marine during all the Canadian visits to Boston - Thanks, always thought they had their own NETs for Secure Comms
