Didn't know they were gonna be here today. Are they here for garbage pick up or grass cutting. Tell them to look out for the fat chic, she's mean. LOL

I think its later on , I heard it called a sunset ceremony , so not sure , It would be great to see the military display , but I wonder how many will show with the strike moving around , I dont have the car today so I might see what I can catch on the radio at home.
Actually a quick search turned up the following ...still no times though..
"Tattoo and Sunset Ceremony"
May 30, 2009 - The Military Units from Windsor are holding a Tattoo and Sunset Ceremony. Bands will include brass and reed as well as pipes and drums. Along with music, there will be a local choir and highland dancers. The Tattoo is a show containing Military Bands and Drill teams. There will be static displays of Military equipment as well as a demonstration of manoeuvres and tactics. Seating is limited, so arrive early and also take some time to view the displays. Parking available in the downtown core and garages."
Just heard callsign Griffon 9 Alpha finished recon of river area inbound to windsor airport for fuel , tower cleared to land on the apron so I suspect this is a chopper , didnt get a chance to go out & look..

Ok listening in today I had enough heads up to take a few pics from the back yard ,(yes I live at the end of the runway)
Sounded like the show control freq over the river was 121.3
There was one point where the vintage formation Stearman & 2 Chipmunks were a little late on thier pass as the C-17 was beginning his ..Tower advised yellow birds "C-17 is making his pass now , leave the river area immediatly & go direct to the field" I don't think it was too close but potentially could have been if they did not get out of the way immediately....
I seem to remember the SkyHawks jump plane being a Buffalo or something in SAR colors but it seems they were using something a little smaller I cant identify ,heres a couple pics

There were a few other types that came in for some passes on the river ,..like this huge C-17

& the local Stearman & friends from the Canadian Historical Aircraft Association took part as well

Saw the CC-177 Globemaster to the south after its pass. Heading back to CFB Trenton I assume. NICE. Would have liked to get a shot of it over the river, with the Ren Cen in the background. But insted of checking my events calender, I was making smart remarks on this forum. I guess that is what happens when you live off your beauty all your life. Brains, not so much. LOL
Nice Shots. What did you use to get them? Did anyone go to the Tatoo?
Don't forget about the Windsor Airshow. Aug 28-30. Windsor Airport.

Camera was cannon powershot S3 has about 80-150 optical zoom I think
Yes we are having an airshow , although I kind of dread it,I just moved to this location beside the airport & my neighbor tells me during the old days when we had big airshows , he would come home & find over 100 people in his yard ,many cutting through & wanting to use the bathroom, & if he didnt let them use it ,..they would use his yard ...he rented a port-a-potty the next day...So Im not so gung-ho for the airshow , I worked at the airport for many years & worked many airshows , Ive seen about everything there is to see , I like them ,..its just the people , people these days are rude & I just cant deal with mobs of them..
Anyway We in Windsor will be having a few events that may offer some radio monitoring....
Red Bull Air Race June 13-14 Windsor Ontario 2009 :: Red Bull Air Race - Motorsport News, Video, Racing Pilots - Races
- Windsor Airshow Aug. 29-30 2009 Windsor International Air Show & it never hurts to monitor windsor tower 124.7 as lots of interesting type of aircraft visit our field , on thier way to other events...
-The Fireworks are always a crazy radio night , fire , ambulace , air & marine bands are always very active
-The summerfest & other events down at the river ensure activity & increased radio traffic all summer
-VHF Marine Band , We live on the great lakes, there is a lot of activity , with the coast guard that can be heard well inland , an easy band to include in your scanning...
-I also monitor the Kelcom 2 system Scanner Frequencies: KELCOM II Trunking System, Windsor, Ontario as there is a few informative talkgroups there ,...even though it dosen't look like it...
Its a shame we cant get police any more ,but the airwaves are not totally dead here ,...yet...

well Im not familar with that radio , but if it can track an ltr system
start by making a new system & make it LTR type
then program the frequencies IN THE ORDER LISTED thats very important for example we know that
in the Kelcom system 420.98750 must be programmed as the 1st position ,420.41250 the 2nd,420.48750 3rd
Then we skip the 4 th slot & put 420.88750 in slot 5 & so on , the point is the freq's must be in order & assinged the same slots as listed ..
I have the 396t & when I told it the new system was LTR it then asked me to enter which frequencies into which slots I wanted so it was pretty easy with the 396
This thread may explain it better http://www.radioreference.com/forums/uniden-scanners/8275-programming-talkgroups-bc898t.html

The small aircraft used by the Skyhawks is N497CA A NURTANIO Aviocar owned by
FAYARD ENTERPRISES LLC
LOUISBURG NC

The Nurtanio is an Indonesian built version of the CASA 212

The Skyhawks rent/lease them as they are cheaper to run than a Hercules, the only other suitable aircraft here at Trenton. I have seen two here on some occasions Fayard is an interesting "Google" they have aircraft all over the world.

They've been using leased aircraft for quite a while, since the only remaining Buffalos in CF service are all on the West coast. They occasionally get one if doing some high-profile shows down south, but its pretty well the exception. With all of the CF's parachute training now in Trenton, it was a lot easier and much more reliable (CC130 serviceability sucks, and parachute training is a pretty low priority) to use a smaller, dedicated aircraft.

Cheers,

Lot's of time to get your $5 airshow parking sign and set up the admission table for the $2 'thunder shack'...... ( no, I'm not kidding )

Yep, Fayard also has Twin Otters in Canada that operate at parajumping schools.

Fayard's planes are registered in the USA, which means if they operate in Canada, they are exempt from Transport Canada regs and also hiding from the oversight of the FAA.

You'd think the Skyhawks would at least use an airplane from a Canadian company...

Here's the same aircraft with the skyhawks in Edmonton last year (I think...),

Was using the radio callsign Canforce 999, which indicates Canadian Forces pilots were at the helm...
