OTTAWA, 1 Dec. 2011. Software-defined radio (SDR) experts at the Communications Research Centre Canada (CRC) in Ottawa have ported the Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS)-compatible P25 emergency public safety radio waveform to an Android hand-held communications device, which may lead the way to running SDR applications on commercial smartphones and rugged tablet computers.

So what does this mean exactly?

They've made a 2 way P25 radio capability on a smartphone using Digital Cellular Technology to access the internet for a band to put it onto?

Wonder if they ever looked at the the platform in which we as hobbiests listen to scanners online using the internet. Sounds like they took it one step further? Yes/No?

Sounds more like an app to turn an Android into a full P25 radio, And an article writer who knows just enough about the subject to mangle a press release.
