• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello, I recently received a used Motorola XTS5000 radio. I am looking for the correct software to use to properly program the device for use in the field, but
I cannot find a software download that works. I am running Windows 10. I am also going to use the radio for EMS purposes as I work on a private rescue truck. Thanks for your help and suggestions!

The ad on eBay says it’s legal and legit. Do you know for an absolute fact that it’s not legit or is it just a feeling?

I kind of agree with chrismol1. I mean, would you trust paying $50-100 for a programming service on eBay? A lot of things can go wrong programming an XTS. It could get bricked, or affiliate with a system. Or just flat out not RX at all because of one tiny programming nuance that wasn’t caught. Plus, would you trust sending your new (or old) radio to a complete stranger who is supposedly offering a “legit” service? People are crazy, man. It’s hard telling what could (or couldn’t) go wrong. I’m aware, on the flipside of that coin there’s also the chance that the offered service really is legitimate, and the worst-case hypothetical above is exactly that. Still, seems like there’s the potential for more risk than reward here.

There are a ton of free resources to figure out the CPS programming so you can do it yourself. I did- it was a massive pain but after practice, and a lot of trial and error I figured it out.

It may have been legitimately acquired, bit reselling it is absolutely against the software license agreement.
We don’t know how the eBay seller acquired it, maybe they have a special agreement for out of production software. At least for me, when I see something for sale on the worlds largest auction website, I’ll take the sellers word on if it’s legit or not.

What band radio is this? If it's 800 it isn't worth crap and are a dim a dozen. Even the other bands are not worth that much. I have a bunch that I gave to my grand kids to use as toys during a game of cops and robbers.

Don't spend tons of money on software. It's out there and M doesn't give a rats a** about old Astro software anymore. Water under the bridge. Since nobody knows what your intentions are with the radio, don't do anything stupid.

What you're looking for is ASTRO25 Portable CPS. The latest release was 20.01.00 I believe. Unfortunately, I'm not sure it's still available from Motorola, and site rules here expressly prohibit sharing it.

Maybe ask around at work whether anyone can help you get your radio set up? The XTS5000 and its smaller XTS2500 cousin were pretty common in fire rescue, and the same software is used for both. (Note that the older XTS3000 is not programmed with the same software, though.)
