All afternoon today I have heard french chatter on the canso dispatch channel, I figured it was a fire department in an Acadian community, but it has been ongoing for a couple of hours now, and it appears to be random (non-urgent sounding) chatter. Does anyone know what I am hearing? I heard Canso dispatch earlier today for a medical emergency and an MVA, but then it has been French ever since. I understand enough French to get by, but can't really understand what they are saying as it is too fast for me!
Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks

2 possiblities

1 - There was a Run for some some charity in Baddeck yesterday. Could have been VFD's assisting
with safety operations.

2 - There some NB fire departments using that frequency, May have been skip.

This happened pretty often last year aswell around this time. If I recall correctly...there is a survey company or some type of operation based in Quebec that is working in the area with the same Rx/Tx as the Canso dispatch repeater system. The pagers here are doing it too and the FFs say its none of them. I do remember asking last year and someone im sure said surveyors...

Skip is ofcourse another very possible cause...

Res21cue's post is a good possiblity as well.

I recall when I was living down home(St.Margaret's Bay), one summer hearing what sound like a police
chase on 158.7600(old ambulance to hospital simplex). Figured it was skip. Then it happened again
the next day. Over the course of a week several non-ambulance transmissons.
Turned of it was a movie crew filming "Two if by Sea", which was being shot in Chester.
As with Res21cue's comments, an out of province agency/company using thier radio's not realizing
they're interferring with local radio traffic.

Thanks guys for your response, all of those sound pretty plausible, either way, after hearing them just the one day, I haven't heard anything since, interesting none the less though. Are there any ramifications for someone mistakenly using a frequency in use with a public safety agency? A mistake is a mistake I guess, but messing with fire/medical dispatch sounds like serious business!
