I recently purchases an sds100, I even paid extra for the county programming option, the only problem is my town and most of the towns near me adapted to a digital system and the programming that I paid 50$ for is the old system so nothing local comes through. I'm trying to add new jersey towns that went on the p25 phase 2 NJICS system. Specifically towns like Verona, Belleville, Cedar Grove in that area. I just cant figure out how to add one of these. It is a challenging radio (both the SDS100 and SDS200), especially for folks who were not already exposed to the earlier 436 and 536 series, which operated with many of the same concepts.

Instead of trying to just add "one of these", if at all possible, have you been able to program in the entire NJICS system? That would be a good starting point. Then, as you become acquainted with the operation of the NJICS system, you will at least have some idea of what it is possible to hear.

The rest of it would just involve creating favorites lists, which would hone in on the particular towns you are interested in. This is where some folks start getting confused, and with good reason--- the SDS series are extremely sophisticated monitoring devices with can be "tweaked" in so many different configurations, that it all can become very overwhelming.

I would suggest that you find your way to the New Jersey forums here on RadioReference, and perhaps locate someone in your area that would be willing to work with you in setting up and "fine-tuning" your radio to bring in the towns and agencies that you want to monitor.

From the chart that you provided, without the irksome lower case "e" in the Te (which can mean partially encrypted), your radio should be more than capable of receiving what you want to hear.

Best of luck with the new "toy" and welcome to Radio Reference.

If you paid the dealer, where you purchased the scanner, $50 (or really any amount) for programming, and they did not add the correct systems, I'd be asking for either a refund of that fee, or for them to provide updated, correct, programming. This happens all too often when paying a dealer, who likely is not in your area, and is not familiar with any system changes. Since the SDS100 is a database scanner, there is no point in paying for programming. You can install Sentinel on your PC, update the database, and then scan using your location, range, and the main database,

Looking at the database page for your county, the talkgroups you list in your post appear to be on your state's NJICS trunked system. Did your dealer not include that system, or have those cities moved to a different system, like this one. If you know that they have moved, then the database does not yet reflect that.

I would suggest that your post be moved to your state's forum. Someone in your area would be more likely to see it there, and can possibly confirm who is using which system. To do that, click on the Report link in the lower left corner of your post. Request that a moderator move the post for you. Do not create a new post; just request that this one be moved for you.

Incidentally sds100guy, I agree with hiegtx in that the dealer apparently did not program your scanner correctly for your area. I agree that you should ask for the $50 bucks back. By the way, who did you purchase your SDS100 from?

So I don't mean to sound condescending or anything, but you shouldn't have had to pay anyone anything for "programming" this thing. It has basically the entire country's scannable database included and is usually updated about every week. All you have do is use Uniden's software to update the master database and then set your location and range you want to scan and off you go. No programming whatsoever needed.

In fact, just to check, I'm on the beach in Florida right now, and I just set the zip code in my scanner to that area and am now scanning for Essex Co. I'd try to get your money back at least. With these database scanners, there's really no need to program anything for most.

I think I figured out why I could not find my town in sentinel, looks like whoever programmed it at uniden didnt update the database I was able to update the database in sentinel and now it looks like they are there now. The scanner was up to date but the database was not. Thanks for the help.

So i have the it saved as a favorite list, and only the west orange simulcast will scan the rest says scan mode nothing to scan any ideas?
Two places to Check that your scan selection is set to scan the appropriate service types. 1) Go to Menu ->set scan selection ->then check both "set nationwide systems" and "select lists to monitor". Make sure the appropriate types under full database and your favorites that you want to scan are set to ON. Then back out to the first menu page. 2) scroll down to "Select service types". Select that and then scroll through that long list to make sure any type of service you're trying to listen to isn't set to off. I would have most everything remotely associated with what you're trying to listen to set to on except if it's blatantly not it.

Example, if part of your favorites list is categorized under "Law Talk", but you were unaware of how it was tagged in the categories and you just thought it was like "police dispatch" or something like that, But the Law Talk was set to off, it wouldn't come up under scanning unless you had that category set to on in that menu.
