I have a Radio Shack Pro-96 handheld scanner. I have been away from scanning for awhile but picked it back up again. I noticed that I am not able to pick up alot of the Char-Meck Police TG's that I had programmed into my scanner (even thogh they show up in the RR database).I was reading something about rebanding and I am wondering if that is the reason why. I am able to get alot of other frequencies (primarly fire and resuce) including MCSO, NCHP,etc. Can someone help me out here?
Thanks.

Can't pick up TG'S Charlotte-Meck

I had already done that. I put the frequencies for Mecklenburg County (Mecklenburg Simulcast) including the control channel(s). I am not receiving any of the individual police districts (ie: Hickory Grove, University, Freedom, Westover, Providence, Independence, etc). The mode is set to "MO". I live in Gastonia and I noticed on the frequencies that I am getting for Gastonia local police and fire the Mode is automatically showing as "DG". This mode (DG) is not even listed as one of the modes in the owner's manual. Do I have the wrong mode (MO) set somehow and not receiving the Charlotte- Meck police frequencies?

MO looks like it is seeing the trunked system as a Motorola Type II (like the old system was). Whatever you have setup for Gastonia, use that for Meck as well. Also, if you're monitoring the Gastonia site, any database submissions would be appreciated...I can't pull that signal in from my location and no one is posting anything for that area recently.

Try DG instead of MO and see if that helps.

Thanks for the assistance. I am still unable to pick up any TG'S for Charlotte-Meck Police under the Project 25 frequencies entered. I am completely confused. I guess I should contact a local RS store in Charlotte and see if anyone there has any information that may be be helpful. I am wondering if I need some software download or something in order to get these communications? Perhaps they are encrypted and that is why I can't get them on the Project 25 side. When listening to Gastonia PD or Gastonia Fire, for example, the DG (Digital) abbreviation appears in the right screen corner and the communication is very clear. I don't have to adjust or do anything. I thought after enterning the frequenices and control channel on the Project 25 side then go into trunking the TG's would start appearing and by selecting the "Trunking" button during the transmission I could start saving those TG's into memory.

PS....You can add these TG's for Gastonia as I noticed they weren't on the RR Database list but I did hear transmissions yesterday:

Gastonia Police - Gastonia PD -3 TG: 18516
Gastonia Police - Gastonia PD-4 TG: 18517

Gastonia Fire - Gastonia FD- Training TG: 18556

Thanks for the talkgroups. And don't even waste gas driving to Rat Shack. They won't be able to help you. I suggest getting software and a cable if you have money to spend. If not, try building out a new setup from scratch to test with. Find an empty bank, add in 853.8125 as a P25 trunked system, and trunk it. Even at night you shouldn't hear more than a minute or two of nothingness.

TPittman - Have you entered the rebanding tables ? The Pro 96 has a place for entry of the needed tables, but you will need software - such as Win96 - to access the tables.

The tables allow the scanner to track control channel assignments on Motorola systems throughout the 851-854 MHz band. The frequencies in that range ending in .xxx0 were not originally a part of the public safety allocations, except near the U.S. borders with Mexico and Canada.

Can't pick upu TG'S Charlotte-Meck

Thanks Jeff for you assistance. This is all new to me (the technical side). I see I will need a programming cable and I have an available port on my Sony laptop. I am running Windows7 OS. Do I understand correctly that I can download Win96 from the internet and it is available for 30 days trial. After that I need to register it for $30.00? Then I will receive a keycode from my registration?
Also, once I download it to my computer does it walk me through the process for rebanding. I am afraid I will get it downloaded then mess up my scanner when I try to go through the process. I read the following below from the RR website that if I had a premium subscription it would download the correct system type and custom tables automatically. I had a premium subscription a while back and need to renew it. My wife was unemployed for a long time and she just got a FT job. Just want to make sure I understand this process. Thanks for all you help!

Reband tables for Motorola 800MHz trunking systems

These tables were provided by Wayne at this forum thread.

If you have a premium subscription, Win96 (version 1.58 and later) will download the correct system type and custom tables automatically.

Note. WIN96 version 1.58 and newer has a standard pre-defined table option for rebanded tables. Manual entry of table information for rebanding is not needed using this version or newer. Simply select "800 MHZ Rebanded" under 3600 CC
