• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have an MTS2000, model H01UCH6PW1BN, serial 466ATS####, firmware 05.12. I'm using CPS R02.03.00. I'm using a genuine RLN4008B rib box and genuine RKN4035D cable. I'm using a Toughbook CF-52 with a real 9 pin serial port.

I can read the radio with this PC with no problems, however, when I try to program the radio, CPS says "verifying that the device can accept the current codeplug" in the status bar for a few seconds, then the radio reboots but the program in the radio has not changed.

The RIB box I'm using works fine with other model radios.

Anyone have a clue what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks.

I'm pretty certain your firmware is too low for CPS to write. I think you need firmware of 5.44 or greater to use CPS. You may have to use the good ole DOS based RSS to program the radio. Or upgrade the firmware.

Do you know where I can find a list of firmwares the software supports? I looked in the readme and the help file and no mention is made of firmware restrictions.

The only version of RSS that I have says it won't do my model number:

You need a lower Version of RSS in order to read MTS as the message say try v6.0.7
or CPS should support it ......

Try uninstalling and re installing the CPS on your computer.
When i worked for a 2-way shop a few years back we used CPS on MTS2000s with firmware 1.5x all the way up to 5x and 6x.

If it reads it and then doesnt shoot it back to the radio its more then likely an issue with the CPS and most of the time removing it and reinstalling it fixes that little bug.

Your not doing anything wrong. Whoever wrote to the radio prior to you, put a lock code to prevent unauthorized writing too. I have 9 of these units, 8 MTS2000 and 1 MT2000 with the same issue. You may just have to reflash the firmware and erase it that way, otherwise if you lucky to find the shop that did the original program, they can get rid of this for you.
