Took my ham HT to Cape May recently, set it on 157.1 for Coast Guard b'casts, did not hear much except at 7 pm with Coast Guard report. Are they on a specific schedule for broadcasting reports or are they done as needed? Tnx.
Depends on what’s going on. My memory says all broadcasts begin on ch16 and then USCG says switch to 22a for more information. So as far as a schedule I do not think so. If your along the coast check APRS VHF propagation website. Very common to get big hops on 16/22a.
So I live in the Philly area but spent a week at a friend's house in Cape May the last week of August through Labor Day this summer
I was in lower Township.
Besides listening to all of the fire and police which is a mix of the old VHF High and the new P2 Statewide system I listened to the Coast Guard.
Cape May of course is the boot camp for the Coast Guard, there is a large Training Center there.
Twice a day I was listening to standard announcements. First announced on channel 16 and then they move to channel 22. It was a mixture of live And taped reports. Just routine stuff unless there's an event going on like a fireworks display or a large vessel in the area.
I didn't hear much activity on sector Delaware bays VHF High digital channel 121.

The Coast Guard Training Center is located in Cape May, they have their own Pol.ice on 171.3500 and their own fire on 171.2375. All the fire talk moree than the police! They respond into Cape May City sometimes and i dentify as "Station 59". If you need any other info I'm here
