Not sure if these TG's will be permanent, but as of now this is what I show for testing on the Madison 800 system.

Capitol Police#1 - TG 2928
Capitol Police #3 - TG 2960
Police Talkaround - 2992
Radio Shop #2 - 8112

Conventional T/A 860.3355 (167.9) == I may of wrote this down wrong due to scratchy handwriting

I'll have to play around with the radios a little more to make sure my information is accurate. Scanning open mode with 246T while keying up the mic is how I obtained the TG's and close call for the conventional talk around channel.

Right now they are just doing some coverage testing, etc. Eventually the UHF and the 800 talkgroups will be patched together until everyone gets assigned their own radios. Right now they are still testing different radio vendors, etc until they find something they like.

I'm under the impression that by mid January everything will be up and running

Thanks for the info!

It wouldn't be 860.3355 because it is 12.5KHz spacing, so it would have to be:
860.3000
860.3125
860.3250
860.3375
etc...

None of which are licensed to anyone in Dane county. I'd be curious to know if you do figure it out. There are not a heck of a lot of conventional 800MHz licenses in Dane County...most of them are held by the state.

I checked again to see what the channel was. My scribble was hard to read.

Tonight I keyed up the conventional car to car and it showed 860.7375 with a PL of 167.9

I assume that will be a simplex channel.

I entered those TG's in my scanner at home and keyed up a couple tests from work and my other half could hear the radio tests clearly. So at least I have the TG's correct for now

Interesting. According to the list on this site anyway, 860.7375 is one of the trunked frequencies. I would think using that as a simplex channel would cause interference.

I was kind of thinking the same thing.

All I know is the display shows "conventional c/c". I couldn't get my 246T to find anything when I keyed it up on the open mode scanning Madison trunked. The other channels all showed a talkgroup when I keyed the radio. I ended up using close call it and came up with the 860 frequency with a PL. Maybe I went about it wrong but it seemed like I did it correctly.

The Madison trunking system FCC license has four frequencies (part of the trunking pool) designated as simplex channels (likely in case of system failure so they can still talk to each other): 859.4625, 860.4625, 860.7375, 860.9625, all with 167.9 CTCSS. From what I've encountered, not all radios have all four programmed, but they are, indeed, occasionally used as direct channels. As a result, I have two systems programmed: Madison-MOT and Madison-Conventional to ensure catching traffic on those direct channels.

Any updates on CPD moving to trunking? I've not heard anything on those first three talk groups.

As far as I know, most if not all of the new portables have arrived a while back. I think they are still waiting on some mobile units as well as making the dispatch consoles work properly with the Motorola radios. I think the main hold up has to do with the consoles.

Then I guess they just need to have everything programmed by the radio shop which probably doesn't take a super long time to do.

I guess it's like a lot of things where you hurry up and wait.

Looks like Capitol PD#1 is patched up finally to TG 2928. I'm not sure if any other channels are patched as of yet.

That has to be the worst cross-patch I've heard in a long time. The communications technicians should be ashamed of themselves to implement a cross-patch of such poor quality. Lucky if 50% of the comms get through the patch due to delays in attack or simply no attack. Audio quality seems almost acceptable, but this cross-patch ain't ready for prime time yet--if anyone's depending on it from a safety perspective they'd better think again. Even if it is a short term thing until all the squad and officer radios are replaced, this is simply dangerous.
