I’m trying to listen to my TRX 1 over my car radio. I have an FM transmitter but all it connects with the supplied cord is it just charges it. I even got a cord to connect with the headphones and plug it in but no sound. Any ideas?

Did you try something else with the transmitter?Did it make sound?
Did you set the FM frequency to a quiet frequency with no station?
Did you try a few volume levels on the scanner?Try 20

Worked fine with my little Yaesu VX-2 - my transmitter plugged into the cigar lighter socket, the headphone lead had to be modified to connect with the VX-2 socket and a mag mount on the roof.

Does your transmitter work with a normal AM radio with a mono headphone plug/socket?

Where did you plug that lead into? Just charges what? The FM transmitter?

So the scanner came with the USB cord to charge through the computer. I plugged that into the FM transmitter but the audio just came through the scanner and was used as a power source. I purchased a USB/Headphone plug on Amazon and plugged it into the headphone jack then into the FM transmitter, thinking that would allow it to play through the speakers. Did not hear anything.

Usb port is for power and data.

Audio comes out of the headphone jack. Make sure that IF output is off or you will not get audio out of the headphone jack, also test that the headphone jack with some earbuds or headphones to make sure you get audio and make sure the head phone audio is set to max in ezscan and that is transferred to the scanner, If you have audio out of the scanner headphone jack then the scanner is not your problem.

How old is your car? Most recent ones have a input jack on the sound system for phones, iPODs etc.

its a 2008 Kia. I have to use an FM transmitter no audio jack. My other car has one. The problem is they don't sell the jacks except on amazon anymore. Do I have to plug it directly into the car jack and bypass the FM transmitter? I use the transmitter for my phone since its Bluetooth and doesn't require a wire. There is a music slot for the transmitter.

Honestly, you might be better off just getting a new stereo for your car. You can probably get one installed for $200.

It can’t be that complicated. All I need is a plug from my headphone jack into the Bluetooth adapter. But where would I get such a plug?

Please state the exact model of your transmitter so we can check it out and advice you on how to use it with your scanner.

Belkin brand work fine with Uniden 396XT, can you just plug directly to radio AUX port (if you have one) via 3.5mm cable ?

My '16 Sorento has an auxiliary plug in the console under the radio. I don't know when they started doing that. Sometimes manufacturers put USB and/or aux plugs in the center console storage area. If it has one, it'll probably be in the bottom.

If your car has bluetooth audio built in where you can play music or whatever directly from your phone to the car stereo, you can use TRX Android's app to get both audio and small display info on the radio. This is not what you are currently trying to do, but it could be an alternative. TRX Android Post gives details and post 147 there has a picture of a radio hooked up to the app. The radio would remain home attached to your computer & your phone does the control, display and audio. Setting up the port forwarding and other details required for remote listening with TRX Android may be more complicated than using the bluetooth and line in adapters/cables. Sounds like you probably don't have bluetooth audio anyway, so best bet is the fm transmitter, simple and done.

Depends on whether it's wired for power or audio/data (or both?).
