Do I need to purchase a special charging adapter to plug my BCD436HP into my vehicle, or will any adapter do?

Strongly recommend getting a high quality 12v to USB adapter and not one off the local market shelf for $3. Should have overcharge protection. Think Anker or similar name brand. And the of course a good quality USB cable. 6 Feet seems to be the length limit otherwise the voltage drop across the cable will be such that the 100 will sense low voltage and shut down charging while running. Shorter is bettter

+1 for any Anker charger that supports a minimum of 2A output per port (which should apply to anything they sell these days). They make quality products and have excellent warranty support IME. If you happen to have a recent Samsung phone with fast charge technology, you might want this one instead - it'll charge my S10 at full speed while simultaneously powering my SDS100:

If you want something less clunky than the stock USB cable, and if 3ft is long enough for you, I'd recommend this cable ("up angle" sends the wire back behind the scanner):

If you have the need for quick charging for a phone or whatever...
I agree wth AvidHiker's choice...
Either one will run and charge the scanner just fine though...
