• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Recently I've been trying to a few different methods of mounting in my ute my UBCD396XT radio scanner. In the past I have used a fairly heavy duty mobile phone holder however these are no longer able to be purchased and the one that I used in the past was well past its use by date.

As the UBCD396XT has a knob on the back of it which connects to the belt clip, I have decided to find a way of using this, luckily this knob is the same size and shape as is often used on CB radio handheld microphones.

Recently I was looking on eBay and came across a stainless steel microphone mount for $5, I purchased this and have today set this up in my ute.

I removed one of the air vents from the driver's side of the dashboard and have screwed the microphone mount on to this. I have then reinstall the vent into the dashboard.

As can be seen the photos below, this is an excellent way of holding my UBCD396XT radio scanner inplace, it is on a great angle to be able to see it while driving while also keeping it secure and being very low profile in use.

I bought this one after doing some research. You can watch the official You Tube, but this is the best I've ever found. In fact, it has the same type of windshield suction cup that are used by Passport/Escort radar detectors, a sticky surface.

I have attempted to pull the mount of of the windshield before, even after being in the unrelenting Texas heat and it takes both hands.

A great deal of the design uses steel/metal.

Also, there is a spring-loaded arm that is extremely secure. I highly recommend this mount. My 436HP works great with this mount.

Rangers/BT50 are a prick to install mounts to. I used a piece of coat hanger, bent in a U shape that went back over and hooked on the back of the air vents on the one to the left side of the steering wheel. Meant I could see it and change volume if needed, and was unobtrusive. This was a company car so couldn't do anything permanent.

Nowadays, believe it or not, I use magnet mounts. I have the belt clip with a metal stick on piece, and a strong magnet on a mount on the vent. Works well, holds up a UBCD436PT as long as it doesn't get too rough.

Yeah, it has taken me a few goes to find a suitable mounting solution, due to the size and shape of the windscreen.

The RAM mount finger grip is pretty hard to beat if you want a solid mount that gives you flexibility for angling the scanner. Pair with a cup holder base if you need a temporary setup.
