On Saturday CARMA members gathered at the Aviation World store in Bensenville for the annual CARMA Picnic. Rich and Lora showed up at 10 to start setting up. Aviation World provided the location and tent for use as well as the fridge to keep some of the food cold.
Soon after several others arrived to help set up the grill, tables and food. All in all we had almost 40 people participating thruout the day, including several members of the Bensenville ORD Airport Watch and a few strays. Even a homeless guy came by and shared a burger. Scott served as the Grill Master and did a great job.
In the mid afternoon the thunderstorm hit. It was actually predicted to be rainy all day, but it turned out to be a great day weather-wise until about 2:00 PM when a fast moving storm rolled in. It lasted only 20 minutes or so and we stayed under the awnings or in the store until it passed.
After the storm many of us stayed and enjoyed the show that is ORD. The patterns changed and many of the afternoon heavies departed on Runway 28 right overhead or on 32L just to the north. In addition there were several trains going by on the CP and UP tracks across the street.
We went thru most of several cases of pop and a case of water, dozens of burgers, dogs and sausages as well as a bunch of other edibles.
Many thanks to Fred, Roy, Rich, Ed and Will for the food and other items. We also used the latest check from ScannerMaster for a portion of the food purchase.
We would also like to thank Lora and the rest of the Aviation World crew for allowing us to use their lawn and facilities. It worked out better than we could have hoped!
A great time was had by all, thanks to all those who participated!
