Would anyone have a FreeScan file for Carroll that they find works very well? If so, can I ask that you share it? Mine seems quirky.
(or I can publish what I have as an attachment and perhaps someone can spot the error of my ways).
Back story, in another thread someone posted a balto co version that I finally got to use yesterday (I'm not in Balto Co much anymore)
the thing was nearly flawless! Thank y'all !

Baltimore County is p25 phase 1, but Carroll County is phase 2. Assuming you are talking about using your 996xt, it won’t handle Carroll. I can’t help with FreeScan.

Ok, I rescind my comment. The system is p2 capable, but looks like most of the TGs are p1 so I think you should be mostly ok.

I can hear a lot of what is said, it misses some, some goes garbled. Similar to what I had with Balto Co and then I compared to another poster's Balto Co "known good" freescan file and saw a few minor changes: Wa-La ! Near perfection. I was hoping to do a compare with someone's known good Carroll file.
Thanx All.

Could be simulcast distortion. How does/did your location compare to these cell sites ?
I'm now Taneytown but the problem occurs even when mobile which is often between Ttown & various Westminster locations. Until 1.5 years ago was on Falls Rd in Millers (Lineboro/Manchester), similar phenomenon and the only tower there was the Lineboro tower which was put up significantly after all other 800 towers in Carroll.

Other say being mobile is usually worse (harder to compensate with tricks) with simulcast distortion than stationary. Hopefully someone will help with FreeScan file.
Yup, pretty much figured mobile would be a greater challenge. Sometimes it's just the smallest thing that fixes all. Previously I would program all frequencies, in order. Recently on advice I just retained the control frequencies. I think it is a bit better but I still feel like it could do a whole lot better. The online feed is great but it has priority activated. On a working incident you can't hear some of the on scene communications as they dispatch additional equipment.

Well, I did a compare, the only thing I see diff is that for each talkgroup you have them set for digital only whereas I have them set for ALL. I wouldn't think this would cause missed transmissions and others garbled. I'd like to blame it on simulcast distortion but it seems to happen at a base unit with a minimal antenna (shouldn't pull in much of anything) and when mobile on the same type scanner. I don't think at the base unit that any but one tower is near enough to touch the scanner with the anemic antenna on it. And yes, someone always mentions it "get an SDSx00" I can't, they look too diff from existing scanners, I couldn't convince my wife that these are not new if they came in the door. drat.

If set to All, the scanner has to decide if the transmission is analog or digital and may upcut the beginning of the audio. By setting to Digital, the scanner will start decoding immediately. Simulcast is very location specific. If you are located close to a tower, the signal can override the interference from the other towers. Even when using a minimal antenna, you can still receive several towers when surrounded by them. A directional antenna pointed at a single tower can help. Try moving the scanner antenna to a horizontal position and rotating the scanner for best reception.
