Just got my 396 today and want to keep it looking new. I've seen the nylon and leather cases at a couple of sites. Anybody have a good reference for a nice cover to protect a great radio?
Thankx !!!

Hello Ray,

I use carry cases that were handmade in the U.S. by www.lilkase.com.
Had two each for my PRO96 and BCD396T exported over to me here because they were far superior and cheaper than anything locally available.
They are a softcase with a nice pliable plastic window- and having heavily used both scanners, I can say they are excellent value for money and certainly keep the radio's looking like new. I originally wanted hard leather- but the leather case tends to make things very heavy and bulky for my usage.

Have a look at the website and see what you think.

I bought the Uniden case, and while it is OK, it is not great. The problem is that I can't see the display through the plastic window. The plastic window isn't flat and reflects from anything nearby. If you are carrying the radio in a pocket and don't need to look at the display then the case is OK.

Excellent Advice

Thanks gentlemen for the heads up on the lilkase. It is the best looking and constructed case I've seen so far, not to mention a darn good value. That being said my 396 will soon be wrapped in a lilkase ...

They don't look like they have great holes to let the audio through. Do you guys have or notice a lower sounding audio with the cases on?? I want one but I don't want to have to turn the volume up louder just to hear it through the case.

I purchased the leather case from scannermaster. It protects very well, and have not noticed any audio muffling. The only thing that I don't like is having to take the radio out of it to change batteries, the case kind of stresses the rubber cover on the side buttons, no current problems, just an fyi...
