Take a look at the radioreference database you will see many casinos have gone to Digital Mototrbo / DMR radio systems. If your scanner has them loaded then yes you might indeed hear chatter. You'll need a DMR enabled scanner BCD436HP/ SDS100 etc'

All of the Caesars properties are encrypted on the strip. But the other properties are still available to monitor as long as you have DMR-capable scanners. MGM properties are on a wide area Tier 3 DMR system which I think is trackable with the newer Unidens (436/536 and SDS100/200. Also, all of the "locals" casinos are in the clear, but still DMR (Station Casinos properties).

What would be a cheap scanner with DMR to listen to Vegas casinos
I don't believe you will find a cheap scanner capable of actually "tracking" DMR conversations. You might get lucky and find a used Uniden that works with DMR. I have a SDS 100 and 436HP. These are rather expensive units.

Depending on your computer skills, a SDR setup to monitor DMR might be better. Here is a video I found for such.

Cheapest scanner on the market that properly trunk tracks MOTOTRBO is the Uniden BCD325p2. Expect to spend about $399.95 + $60.00 for the DMR upgrade if bought direct from myuniden.com (other retailers who offer the paid upgrades tend to mark the prices up). If you'd rather buy 2nd hand, check the classifieds. Every so often one will pop up, occasionally with one or more paid upgrades (DMR, NXDN, etc) for cheaper than new

I have the Uniden BDC536HP in my vehicle. I don't need to bring in a scanner. I just use the Siren app on my phone and connect the scanner to the casino wifi.
Plus a set of cheap headphones connected to the phone jack.

I tested it out for distance. I can still receive a block away.

I'm heading to a concert in Las Vegas next weekend. Programmed Casinos, LAW, FIRE, EMS in my SDS100 and TRX-1. Not sure I'll have much time to play radio, but I will have them nonetheless. Kinda interested what there is to hear.
