CASTLE ROCK - The Colorado State Patrol says a 16-year-old driver overcorrected and caused a three-car crash that left another driver dead on Friday night and sent a total of six people to the hospital.
The State Patrol says the teen was heading north in a Mercedes on US 85 near Happy Canyon, three miles north of Castle Rock, when he swerved to avoid an object in the road.
When overcorrected to get the car straight again, he lost control and went into the southbound lanes and hit a Chevy Silverado head-on. The driver of the Chevy was killed.
After that crash, the Mercedes spun around and was traveling backwards when it hit a Pacifica van.
The teen driving the Mercedes and his two male passengers were taken to Sky Ridge Medical Center; an adult woman and a juvenile in the Chevy were taken to Littleton Hospital; and the man driving the van was taken to Sky Ridge.
State Patrol says all the vehicles rolled at some point, but all ended up on their wheels.
No names were immediately released.
US 85 was closed for several hours after the crash.
