Catawba County's 800MHz frequencies are in fact live. However, there is no county-owned TRS!

NCSHP has put the 5 frequencies on the air for the county.

The agreement with SHP allows Catawba County to maintain its current license.

The county was granted a license back in 2001 but has yet to make any decision on building an 800 MHz system. An FCC construction deadline had to be met to avoid losing the frequencies.

For the time being then, Catawba County's frequency assignments are being used on the Baker Mtn. VIPER site. The county is
not surrendering ownership of the frequencies.

I would bet even money that Iredell County is doing the very same thing with its frequencies at the SHP Barium Springs site.

Note: I'd like to personally thank Jerry Boggs, Communications Administrator for Catawba County, for taking the time to answer my questions.
