Catching a signal from toronto in Oswego possible?

I was wondering if the signal I am getting which is a motorola control channel could be from toronto. The frequency matches but have not had time to confirm. Could this be possible. All I am using is a uniden bc785D and a simple 3dbi gain 800 antenna not mounted high up or anything. Its the Bell tower east and the control channel is 868.0875. It was about 19:30hrs 7/19/05

I suppose it's possible. Usually atmpospheric propogation allows Low to VHF frequencies duct or skip. The odd case of 400 mhz band. I have heard Rochester Police here in Brockville, Ontario they are on 400 mhz band. I have rarely heard a case of 800 mhz being heard the distance u are talking from Toronto, Ontario to Syracuse, NY. I suppose Lake Ontario being unobstructed to allow radio signals to bounce across. The Farthest I have picked up the Bell Tower Control channels in the east is Port Hope driving down the 401, and its very weak at that point. I have picked up control channels that walk right over other radio signals on a frequencies in the VHF band during skip conditions especially lately this summer. If you can log down all the information and try to extrapolate what u can from it to determine its origin. I have added control channels to my list that I have picked up, that I normally never here during normal conditions. Trying to determine where they come from is a tough task in some cases.

How did you happen upon it ? Where you doing a broad search of the
800 meg Public Safety bands ?

Most of the others I found yesterday are for nextel frequencies but this one was one of the few that came up no where and was definatley a motorola trunk signal and is not close to any of the nextel frequencies. The other place with one of these channels is Kingston City Works Greater Sudbury Public Safety and Queens University. The data I provided previously is all that I can give you. Theres the time and date. The location was just south of the oswego harbor on a road that borders the lake. I could see the harbor in plain view because it was almost in front of me. I was using a bc785d scanner and a 3dbi 800 nmo mount antenna.
