• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Alright I been out of CB for a long time, once in awhile throw the old 19 ch on the scanner and listen when on highway but otherwise when was working the truck yards we used use ch.21 for yard jocky and security and worked pretty well.

Im working in a community thats about 15 miles of road pretty direct few obstructions (homes/big lake) between points anw woods.

They want the road crews to have communications with the office and safety crews, im trying get them to go MURS buy cheap base but price for mobile CB sounds better to them. Understand its not private and open transmissions but curious how affective. After seeing all posts about DXers taking over dont want take chance missing call of course cell phones are primary use now just guys plowing dont want pick phone up but mic they will?

Im in Pocono pa area..

Not sure why you want it private. But I thought I would try and listen to the crappy bad today and oh my GAWD. What a crap shoot. You will be very very hard pressed to find a frequency that is not full of music, beep tones, whiz tones, people [well I'm not certain that is the proper term], yelling, singing, whistling, just doing mindless yapping [at least when I found something intelligible. For businesses, until this sun spot cycle hits bottom please go with MURS or get the proper license and radio. CB would be a huge waste of time. Today it is full of garbage.

15 miles of roads doesn't give us any idea of the area that you are trying to cover or the lay of the land, such as how many square miles you need to cover and the furthest distances but using a compass and drawing a circle 1 mile out from the center and then having one circular road around the outside circle equals 12 miles. So depending upon the terrain and your specific requirements, MURS should work fine.

Does everyone have to be able to communicate with each other or just be able to communicate with a central office or dispatch?

Keep us posted what you decide to do.

For a legit business that is going to depend of radios for "safety", I am shocked you'd even consider something non licensed. If safety is such a concern, then contact a local vendor to get you some commercial gear and a license. Maybe just a simple VHF simplex setup would be fine for you. Consult a professional.
