• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Anyone tell me if 11 meters is active in Detroit? I had a radio given to me. Thinking about pulling the 2M/440 out of the car, and putting 11 meters in. But don't want to go thru the hassle if the band is dead in Detroit.

(moderator: If you want to move this to the Michigan Forum, go ahead. With the way Wayne moves things, there's just as equal a chance that if I posted there, he would move it here).

I wouldn't turn it on with your wife or kids in the car, but I scan some activity every now and then.
I personally haven't been on 11M since around 2001 when I lived in Macomb. Yes, there are lots of amps and freeband use also. I monitored some skip from some truck drivers in Clewiston, FL on 25.165Mhz. 27.505 was "Channel 50". 27.195 was sort of the secret channel (in between ch 19 and 20) and was sometimes referred to as "Channel 19A".

I still have my HR2510 locked up in the garage along with some other gear. I'm sure one day it will get fired up again.

Its VERY active in Macomb Co. CH 19.
I lived in Sterling Hts for 2 years and made a lot of good friends on it.
There is a lot of trash on it tho, just as a warning, but if you can take some language and have a sense of humor, you will be fine.
I moved to Saginaw now, and its completely dead. :(

Thanks to all for the 11 meter updates. I think what I am going to do is go ahead and swap the antennas this weekend. I have a handheld scanner that will scan the CB band. I'll make up a SO-239 to BNC adapter, and listen for a while before I decide if I want to install the radio.

What is the difference between the standard 40 CB channels and the 11 meter channels?
What meter are the standard channels on.. sorry to sound so lame, but if I don't ask questions... I sure won't learn.

Thanks guys....

Like Reedeb said, 11 meters and the CB band is the same thing. I just call it 11 meters for no particular reason. Just a habit, I guess.

Downriver is channel 22. Wildcat is the resident hack, er, um, I mean Tech. ;)

But, last I was on there; there was nothing but a bunch of noise making, and fighting. I got old of all that, real quick.
