• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

FM came out a few years ago on CB, anyone notice if it's being used?
I have a guess that I will be watching for!!!!

FM was added during a higher part of the current solar cycle. I think that not many DXers will have any interest in it.

But when the next solar minimum comes along.... in the few pockets/places that have a local CB group that still meets on the air.... I am wondering if there will be more "adopters" coming out of the woodwork. I believe that it will prove to be more quiet than AM and possibly more attractive for those local meet ups.

We will see what we will see....

Try 26.805, channels 30-36, 27.555, and 27.600 for FM DXers. UK narrowband FM channels start just above 27.600, so that can get active during an opening.

FM really is better suited for local comms, or small traveling groups on 11 meters. That fact isn't going to stop a CBer during a band opening, though.

The sideband is to costly look at well over $200.00 But FM is under $100.00 for name brand. In 2002 when taking to lot truckers they all had changed to sideband. If they need range just cellphone. I look on internet, truckers still use channel 10 at weigh station ( It how CHP talk to trucker on getting the weight truckers. CHP check the of each front is 6,250 lb for each wheel and the rear is chart they use) Lots fun.
So truckers only need am but I did read owner operators are upgrading to FM and still use 102 in twin antenna. Company own truckers luck to have a 48 inch .

Those who never hear anything = poor radio rig. That’s a given.

Some stretches of some roads there’s not much and those are factors I’ve covered extensively, elsewhere.

Kalifornia Konfused is that less than 3% of Americans live between IH-5 and IH-35 if we control for the greater Denver SMSA. That’s a gigantic land area to first traverse. A crappy little rig won’t cut it.

BEST MOBILE thread is the desire for more men to take the time to do it right (first time) and then join by speaking up and helping relieve the burden of a long day. There are plenty of radios turned on given Interstate travel. Do your part.

The tech stuff is straightforward. Learning to use it well is the actual learning curve.

A sly dog would run FM with a few friends on the same channel so’s all the others only heard that buzzin’.

“Oh, yeah, we forgot to tell y’all about that.
Sorry you missed it”.

That dude was stout here in Kaufman, S-6 to S-7. Thought it was a local at first, as it seemed like a convo for a few minutes. Knew it couldn't be skip with the solar conditions.

Yeah, he heard me a time or two: “If you’re not on the road get off 19, please”. (It’s not like I have real power.)

So I suspect a fixed location. (Kaufman WalMart is 92/air-miles from the one near me).

Had a sharp drop-off I don’t associate with mobile (near edge of FTW 20-miles East). Though we have had a stationary mobile irritant, “ . . at the FTW Walmart parking lot”.

I haven’t been on the road since then so hopefully he’s back in re-hab. OKC had Wino Joe who went on for years.

He was at a fixed location at that time, but I'd suspect a mobile unit. It'd take a Super Bowl rig to do that from the ground, but that was the same kind of coverage I used to get on top of a parking garage with just a kilowatt.

I figure we'll be hearing more from him.
