• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a Cobra 18 WX ST2. When I key the microphone, it resets my channel to channel 9, as if I briefly lost power. It has not done this in the past (I used it for about 7 months). I noticed that I can no longer transmit to get responses from other cb'ers, A few days ago, on the highway, I wanted to merge into a lane and the trucker behind me over the cb to go ahead and merge. I responded to thank him and hey said he cant understand anything I was saying and that I needed to take my radio to the doctor. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is the problem. I use a magnet mount K30 antenna in the middle of a truck bed toolbox. Thanks.

Just a guess, but maybe something's gone wrong with your input power line. It sounds like there's just enough current capacity to keep the voltage up while just listening. When you key the mike however, the radio's starved out and mostly shuts down. Then when you un-key, it's as if the power's just come back on, hence the reset.

Check all of the connections and the fuse on the radio's power feed line. Could be some corrosion has set in recently. Maybe even replace the fuse just on general principles. Again, I'm just guessing from what you've written, but this is the easiest and hence the first thing to check.

Make sure the PL-259 connector on the end of the coax that plugs into the back of the radio is screwed on tight. The outer ring / shell may have loosened up or come off completely.

thanks for the checklists, I will get back with you guys when I have an update

Kind of curious as to how this turns out. Please keep us posted. Or at least, leave a note for your next of kin to post something if it goes badly.

***Just kidding!*** Good luck, let us know.
