• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

1. What is the gta?

2. This is not a CB radio. It's a 10 Meter radio. If you're looking to convert it for CB use, there is nothing to program. There is a resistor you have to remove on the circuitboard. It's not something that can be done through programming.

CB radio is 11 meters. 10 meters is an amateur band. So are you wanting 11 meters or 10 meters [for which an amateur license is required].

Again are you talking CB frequencies which not legal as too much power. If amateur radio just give your call out on any frequency. On 10 meters 28.4 USB is calling frequency. But don't expect much activity.

Starting on CB using an export rig really isn't a good idea. I'd suggest using a real CB radio for a while, figure out what you want to do, and then revisit this rig once you have some experience and expertise. As for 10 meter, unless you are licensed properly for that band, please stay off those frequencies.

The radio is sold as a ham (AKA amateur) radio. Out of the box, it only works on the amateur 10 meter band.

In order to legally use it, you require a federally issued ham radio license and a federally issued call sign. You have to write exams in order to obtain a ham license. Amateur Certification — Fact Sheet - Spectrum management and telecommunications

In Canada, CB radio is known officially as the General Radio Service (GRS). In order to use a CB in Canada, the radio you use must be approved by the government and bear a certification label stating so. RIC-18 — General Radio Service (GRS) - Spectrum management and telecommunications

These 10 meter import radios were designed to be easily modified so they can run (illegally) in the nearby CB band (11 meters). The Stryker is not an approved radio so it is illegal to use on the Citizen's Band.

In short, unless you have a ham license and a federally issued call sign, there is no way to use the radio legally. But it's up to you whether or not you use it. Be aware that you can have the radio seized and you can receive a fine if you're caught. (Chances of getting caught are slim.. But there is a chance).
