CB radio in Ohio

Hello, everyone. I'm new to the forum. I was wondering if CB radio is still active in Ohio. I would like to get back into the hobby after many years away from it, but would like to know if there's any activity. Thank a lot.

I recently got the answer to that question. I live in Central Ohio and recently hooked my gear back up after a 21-year break. The band is extremely quiet. Activity from base stations is sparse, but it's still there.

Just last night I talked from Mount Vernon to St. Louisville and Dillon Lake. The night before I talked from Mount Vernon to a guy in Marengo, one in Cardington and one south of Centerburg.

So, yes, there is activity. It isn't anything like it used to be, thank GOD. There were too many knuckleheads on the radio back in the day. It's nice to know they aren't there anymore. It seems fun again.

Sporadic on the Ohio Turnpike, some trucker chatter on 12 and 19; depends where you are and when. A CB that scans is a good idea.

CB radio here in my neighborhood is a hoot. Very busy what with the Weekend Warriors, our Neighborhood Watch, and the local yokels. Now and then they get into it with this trucker with an obvious linear advantage and a very irritating Willie Nelson impersonation. He transmits from the Love's truckstop on I-70. It gets testy at times. Very entertaining, yes, indeedy. haha

My recent experiment in constantly running a scanner on CB channels was that there was quite a bit of use of channels other than AM-19 in some states. Places far from truly big cities. It’s well worth trying.
