• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

More detail?
Well, first, how about defining "good cb channels", as in what are you looking for? The use of channels varies a lot and never stays the same all the time, people move to different channels for various reasons. And then it depends on what you are equipped to hear. The only sure way of determining any of that is by doing that listening, you know?

Cutegril, each one of the previous

posters trying to help you. Be specific as to WHAT YOU want to listen/talk on the cb radio. Also welcome to the best forum to help in the rf spectrum. There's times when it may appear that a member is being flip or just rude; what happens is we get asked questions about something without any details.

please list what ch 1-40 are and what they are used for

Channel 1 is the bottom of the dial and channel 40 is the top. UNLESS you have a modified radio [very illegal] then you have channels under 1 and over 40.

Look at the knob [or button] on the front of your radio it will have a number 1 thru 40 [THESE are channels] NOW turn on the power switch [after it's been hooked up of course] and start checking out each channel. In the OLD days channel 11 was a calling channel, Ch 19 was Truckers channel, ch. 9 was called the emergency channel. BUT today everyone and anyone yaps on whatever channel they wish to.

Just a rehash to what Reedeb posted.

CB does not have certain channels to do anything specific. Channel 9 suppose to be for help or emergency. All other frequencies (channels) open for ANYTHING you can gab about. Grab a cb and give it a listen.

edit: reedeb, YOU ain't the troll I was warned about. But I am starting to wonder about the OP...

The internet is your friend. Use search engines for the answers to your very basic questions. The learning curve is yours to initiate. Specific will receive good, on target answers. Fishing expeditions like this indicate that some reading on your part is needed.
