At risk of "getting shot" for posting this, I'm gonna go ahead and this is probably not the place to ask, but I'm gonna ask it anyhow-

Does anyone in the Waldo county area of Maine or surrounding counties use CB 27mhz or MURS 151/154mhz?
I have several different radio capabilities at my fingers and they don't get used at all. I would like to put it to use and I used to love talking on the CB when I was younger and MURS many years later. Seems as though no one talks on radio up here in Maine. In fact, when people see my vehicle, the first words out of their mouths are, "What fire department are you on?". When I tell them I TALK on the radio, they get confused, as in, their head spinning in circles confused as to how anyone could talk on a radio or why anyone would talk on a radio when you have cell phones. Any ideas? Maybe Waldo county and surrounding areas don't have anyone on radio?

My apologies for posting this if this is supposed to be somewhere else. I'm trying to find people in Maine in my area, not on the other side of the USA, hence the reason I posted it here.

I use MURS1 (151.82) with a D754N Tone, let me know if you want to try and make contact as I havent gotten a chance to range test my antenna yet. I’m located in Southwest Harbor which is on Mount Desert Island.

Have tried ham radio? Try finding a club near you.

Honestly, I have my ham license but I get into an aspect of radio that most hams dont. Ive monitored Ham bands around here and no one uses VHF/UHF for talking the way I talk on radio and the way I used to talk on the radio. If I am in good with a group of local people, I am usually in constant contact with them via radio and we do lots with radio. I am also into 30mhz on up. The only HF I mess with is CB. Im not the type to turn a radio on once a week or two just to say a quick hello. Way back in the day, I used to talk on CB and later on MURS and it was with a group of guys I knew and we were all of like mind. We used the radio just for casual talk (not meant for ham radio) and just had a good time. We were all like family. Didnt know if they had anything like that in Maine. I used to do a lot of antenna building and much more. Just having fun basically. I dont have a lot of time for radio due to my personal life so I cant be committed to a club unfortunately. Just looking for casual talk on the radio, they it used to be like back in the day, unless of course people still do that sort of thing now.

I dont live in your area, but, I do know some high hills around here that even with low power I think I may be able to get a signal out there. The next time I go out, Ill shoot you a message on here. I love doing range testing, mapping out dead zones etc.

CB is used locally where I live. There are "local channels" I know of 3 community channels like that. Up in "the county" CB and MURS is used on the woods roads. There are signs indicating which channels to monitor when you get on a certain road.
