I have been building up a trike for a long distance ride. I have a 2m radio on it; however, on a test run, of several days, that I made this week, I noticed a problem with 2m. It has a dearth of active users.
Plan B is to supplement it with a CB. I am interested in some suggestions. My desires are, small package size, durable in a high vibration environment, and low standby power consumption.
Here is a picture of the bike, it is terribly overloaded because I wanted a "worst case" test run. The solar panels generate about 200-220W (less than they are rated at; but the positioning isn't ideal). They are keeping the battery topped off. The drive motor is all over map; but generally the draw is about 100-200W The only time the battery dropped significantly was on a 40 mile run, up a grade into a strong headwind. Even then, by noon they were back to full power.
You can see where the 2M radio is, it won't be there on the long tour. I will be repositioning it so that it is up higher, under the panels.
