Anyone in the Hampton Roads area or the Eastern Shore caught any radio traffic from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel Police lately?
I've been using TGIDs 6733 &
6734 on STARS. Sounds like they have been silent for some time. I use to hear them all the time during traffic stops and escorting oversized loads .

CBBT PD is still there, in fact an officer right now is calling in a traffic stop @ 0137 on TG 6733 (CBBT Dispatch). I've haven't caught any traffic on TG 6734 as of yet, but TG 6733 is still much in use. It's not unusual for them to have low activity, or no comms at all for a stretch.

@Roydog62 I don't really monitor LE regularly, but I keep CBBT PD kicking around for whenever VB Fire goes on a water rescue around there. I haven't heard an oversize or other escort go down in years! To be fair, I've been in and out of the area, but haven't heard one in a hot minute! Mostly traffic stops and the occasional hazmat inspection or the rare overheight.

Thanks for your reply. I recorded that one last night along with a 11:15p.m. and traffic stop @ 8:40a.m. I was just wondering if they may have jumped on the ORION
site. 👍

Gotcha! They have access, but aren't regular users. Besides VB using Orion, the only other regular users I hear is VA Ports PD, which is even more slow and boring lol. Hearing them checking gates and roaming gets old pretty quick!

About 4 months ago I ran all TGIDs on ORION 1 and found constant traffic day and night on the following TG : AD1(1404), AD2(1405),AD3(1406), OPS1(1410), OPS2(1411), OPS3(1412) & OPS8(1417).
ALL of these are UNENCRYPTED Drug Task Force channels operating in the 757.😧

Right?! I've got the whole system programmed in my 352P2 handheld as well, and had the same observation. It was in use when that truck went over the side a couple of months back, but I was more focused on the VB Fire ops and had two scanners going. Orion can be a real mixed bag sometimes, users seem to forget we can ALL hear them lol. Reminds me of VBPD's SIU talkgrounp back in the day, some of those conversations had me on the floor lol

PS - I forgot to mention this, CBBT has a brush truck on the Nprthampton side, for any brush fires on the sand dunes. I've only seen one photo of it, and it's the tip top of my photo hunting list. About the only info I have is it stays on that side of the bridge tunnel. I'd love to know who staffs it up when it's needed. There used to be a photo of it online, but the photographer deleted his photo albums. You wouldn't happen to have any better info on it?

They're unencrypted until they realize people are listening then go encrypted. Putting this on blast won't lead to anything besides more encryption which is another reason the entire STARS will be fully encrypted in the next year or two.

I respectfully disagree, especially in this situation. Special Ops/Investigations/Surveillance work via radio SHOULD be encrypted! Encrypting dispatch is one thing, but encryption during ops should be automatic, its a total no brainer! It should be put on blast, and I hope they do see this. I know my opinion isn't popular, and I'm looking at it from a safety/jeopardizing a solid case. Just my $0.02, I wont loose sleep if no one else agrees.

I agree but a lot of times everything gets encrypted not just SWAT, Narcs, and Surveillance which is why I mentioned STARS. I don't feel like the entire STARS system need to be encrypted but they're doing it.

Another reason is some dumbass had all of the Interop side of ORION broadcasting to a feed. I was the one that noticed it and tried to message the guy providing the feed, it took forever to get the ball rolling to get RR to remove the feed

Ok, got you now! I'm with you there, I kinda read your first answer a tad wrong. I apologize for that, and yeah, Im with you on essential encryption.

Investigations 2 (2nd and 3rd pcts) was my favorite. One time, I heard someone heading back to the 2nd precinct for a "code brown." :ROFLMAO: The adventures of Mason Wolfe (local vb junkie/dealer) were also classic.

Lmao! That's awesome! My fave VBPD SIU exchange-I was listening on a buy/bust operation, and stopped after an hour. The hours later, this happens:
"Hey Sarge, what do you want me to do with this guy?"
"Uh, advise him about being a jerk in public and kick him (short for kicking them loose)"
"Done and Done."
