Hello All,
I live in San Angelo, TX and it hit me not to long ago that there is a Customs and Border Protection office at the airport. I have never attempted to monitor federal communications, I usually only monitor ham and local SO/VFD in the VHF band. I have a BCD436HP and A BCD536HP that I have set aside for the task of "Finding" the CBP frequencies. I have my BCD436HP set to scan 160-174Mhz. The only hit of interest I keep getting it 165.0375 with a PL Tone of 254.1 and it sounds like data of some sort. I have the BCD536HP programmed with the frequencies in the database for nationwide and air/marine. I got hit on CBP Digital 7 (170.1000) with a NAC of 301, CBP Analog 4 (165.4125) no PL, and Blue 1 (282.425) for about a few seconds with no audio on it. I know absolutely nothing about federal frequencies. Any information regarding these frequencies would be greatly appreciated.

Here is an overview of federal allocations https://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Federal_VHF/UHF_Channel_Plans. Search the ranges with the frequency steps listed. CPB should mostly be in the 162-174 band.

If you haven't already program the federal frequencies at https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?coid=1&tab=nationwide and see what you hear.

Here is a list of known CBP nets The Fed Files Blog: CBP Frequencies. Program those and see what you hear. Notice that many of the frequencies are duplicated.

Some of the federal agency wiki articles have frequencies that aren't in the database https://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Common_Frequencies#Federal_Government.

I don't know how much CPB activity you will find in your area. I don't think there are any highway checkpoints that far north. Don't be surprised if you don't hear much and/or it's mostly encrypted.

Back in the late 70's to early 80's when the border meant something I lived in El Paso and the Border Patrol was extremely active and great listening. They also had point-to-point links in the 406-420 band. I don't know if any of those still exist since they now have a networked P25 system.

Not sure where [haven't look at the RRDB] those Alpha Tags came from but...

170.1000 $201 is likely DNET-200
165.4125 Analog had many names Net-xx all varied by PL/CTCSS and input Freq
Also that Freq is shared with many other agencies

I would suspect the old Analog NET-01 became either DNET-01 [P25] or DNET-200 from
the tower at Latitude:31.421235 Longitude: -100.543749

BP Sector Del Rio has a wide-area network for you near-by from Eola linked to 4 other Sites

Thank you for this information. I got a nac of $301. Also, Where did you get the information of the tower site at 31.421235 Longitude: -100.543749 and the eola link? I'm curious to look at it.

Desparate For Feds

Yes, I don't know what has happened in west Texas. There is so much needless secrecy. Even Big Spring will be joining the "DE" club. I happen to know Big Spring needs their encryption to hide the pervasive government corruption that has existed there for years.

Good luck on finding any federal frequencies out there. From what others have told me, there is a fairly sophisticated military communications center there in SA.

I have been chasing feds since I monitored DEA, ATF, and other agencies in Houston. The last federal activity I heard was in a larger city, not a small city like San Angelo. I nearly fell over when I heard DEA keying up in Austin. I hear them, on occasion, on the HOT radio system here in Waco. In the smaller cities, the feds tend to blend into already existing radio systems. At times, the ID used may be entirely ambiguous to some listeners.

Yes, you have to be very diligent to intercept federal frequencies. But, until LE comes to their senses & online scanning becomes a thing of the past, you will continue to see increased "DE" activity.

That Fed Blog is a great place to begin. Good luck to you. I feel for you living in that area without anything to hear.

In many areas of the country you must be capable of finding stuff to list to all by yourself. You can't depend on the radioreference database. You can't depend on asking for frequency lists on the radioreference forums.

or finding via GOOGLE the lists from the 80's

As Tom, Chris, myself and many others do, burn out your search button

You will never know what has not been submitted [can't use the words "Not Found"]
