What is a CCH, my sheriff's said. "Radio 24 Sam, running a CCH, he is/ or has CCW. Any ideas?

My state as well as Ohio have both passed concealed carry laws and the permit around here is called a CCW permit. Just a thought.

My guess:
He is getting ready to check a Concealed Carry Handgun (CCH) by serial number etc. that he has retreved from a person with a Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) permit.

While "CCH" could very well be related to a concealed handgun, I've always thought it stood for "Complete Criminal History." similar to what Joe said. Acronymfinder.com lists one possibility as "Computerized Criminal History" relating to the FBI.

Thru most of the 80s' and 90s' the FBI and various states referred to CCH as Computerized Criminal History. Many agencies now refer to the FBI criminal history database and states that maintain like databases that are accessible thru the same type of inquiry called a QH and QR as the NCIC III (Interstate Identification Index). A QH is done using a person's name and at least one numeric identifier (DOB or SOC normally). A pick and choose list returns showing a list of candidates and their personal identifiers (names, alias names, DOB, SOC, height, weight, etc) along with the FBI number and any State ID numbers (SID) applicable to the record. If the inquiring agency sees a record which may be the one they want they then do a QR inquiry using the FBI number or the SID and the record then normally returns from the FBI and any state that maintains a record on that person. The system has gotten better over the years and is one of many different types of inquiries that a terminal operator can make into the NCIC 2000 databases. I hope this answers some questions that people have on this aspect of criminal justice information systems.
