CCSO-Narcotics Caught in the Open

Collin Co. Sheriff Narcotics were operating in the Clear today, a very rare occurance, they love to use encryption. But what they were disgussing while listing to a C.I. wearing a body wire was the fact that They Couldn't hear a darn thing. They were using the thing in scan, and Listening to the frequencies via a Scanner and the Reciever. the Frequency in question was a 164.4500 and something on 170Mhz. Do we have a listing for Low Power Wireless Mic's anywhere here? and Do they operate in an Open Mode or are they Encrypted??

There is a listing for wireless in that range in the police call books,.. at least the older books, and no they are not encrypted,.. they are lo power and if you are close eneough to hear,.. your too close to the cation.

Plan for Wireless Microphones in the Band 162-174 MHz

The following channels have been allotted for use by wireless microphone systems under the conditions listed in (a) through (e) below:

169.445 MHz
171.045 MHz
169.505 MHz
171.105 MHz
170.245 MHz *
171.845 MHz
170.305 MHz
171.905 MHz

The emission bandwidth shall not exceed 54 kHz.

The output power shall not exceed 50 milli-Watts.

The frequency stability of wireless microphones shall limit the total emission to within ±32 .5kHz of the assigned frequency.

All wireless microphone use will be on an unprotected basis and further will be on a non-interference basis to authorized Government and non-Government users with the exception of other wireless microphone users.
Assignment applications for wireless microphone use will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Frequency Assignment Subcommittee (FAS); and, assignment applications do not need to be coordinated with the Hydrology Subcommittee.

* Most common wireless microphone frequency used by law enforcement in car camera systems.
