Then I guess you haven't heard of the Super Tanker by Evergreen International which is based off a 747. I have no idea how they're going to maneuver in the mountains and canyons. In any case, I was at the demo day when Evergreen made its stop in my area.

Hey ScannerDude... They were using that down @ Rico IC until it got diverted to those SoCal fires. My friend was on the way back up from Santa Barbara on Hwy. 101 NB and saw it (not dropping the water though...)

I don't think Evergreen's 747 has been used on a fire yet but the DC-10 has.

That is true. The Evergreen Super Tanker has not been used on a wildfire yet. They're still trying to get approvals and stuff like that from what I heard.

Correction

Oops... I posted that @ the wrong time... I was talking about the DC-10. Not the 747.

Sorry if I confused someone...

Tanker 910 was out here at the Horse Fire in San Diego and made a couple of drops. The news had footage of them airborne, but not dropping. From what I heard the pilot made 2 drops and then went out of service due to a family emergency.

the 747 is still in the testing phase. Evergreen has apparently hit some significant snags due to the considerable size of a 747. apparently the DC-10 still has some decent manuverability and is doing fairly well during fire opperations in CA.
