If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Astron makes some nice power supplies....but you could also get a Motorola power supply that would have the nice little cozy housing for it to fit in.

Check ebay if you want to buy online..........

If it is a 45watt radio you are going to want a power supply that puts out 15-20 amps

And as for it being a 45watt radio, im actually not sure what it is. How would i be able to find out?
Thanks again.

You could always just buy this thing from /\/\oto...

RLN5403A
CDM Mobile Series Control Station
The CDM Control Station converts CDM Series Two-way radios into an attractive, convenient base station. The radio mounts into the lightweight, portable chassis, containing a full range of front panel control buttons plus an internal microphone, speaker and power supply. A front connector allows for a range of external audio accessories, including a headset, desk microphone, tone or DC remote adapter and telephone interconnect in one convenient package. Control Station has undergone extensive accelerated life testing and has been system tested with Motorola CDM Series mobiles.

List price? A cool $660... Then you would need the microphone, RMN5068A, $120.

You can tell if the radio is hi power either by decoding the model number or read the radio with cps it will indicate which one you have. If you get a 20 amp supply you should be fine either way. My 45 watt cdm usually pulls about 16 amps on hi power.

If the sixth character in the model number is an H its 1-25 watts. If it is a K it is 25-40 watts. If the radio is 1-25 watts and is VHF the current drawn would be 7 amps. If its UHF and 1-25 watts the current drain would be 8 amps. Both the radios draw 13.5 amps on high power because the VHF is 45 watts and UHF is only 40 watts.

If you are only rxing with this radio you will only need about .3 amps. If you are going to use an external 8 ohm speaker it would be about 1.5 amps

Also be sure to get a 12 Volt power supply.

I took these figures out of the Motorola CDM brochure.

These are not the best pictures, but I have two CDM1250s (VHF and UHF) in the above mentioned Astron supply housings and I love them!

Off topic, but what is that board with the blue screen? Is it a display for MDC1200 ID's?

That is a prototype of a display unit for Amateur Radio APRS called the HamHUD:

http://www.rpc-electronics.com/hamhud2p.php

It's the latest version in a long line of versions. This particular one has the modem built in and we slimmed the size down to half the thickness of the old version.

Here is a good explanation of APRS:

If you have a CDM1250 or 1550 and want to decode MDC, just enable it in programming and the MDC ID will be displayed on the LCD when a call comes in. Just remember that depending on whether the transmitter is set pre or post burst, you may or may not see the ID until the user de-keys.

I already have it Set-up for my town PD. I would like for another screen to see the ID's but they can be expensive.

I've never got into APRS. Maybe I should explore it more. I don't know anyone who uses it so I dont really see an advantage for me.
