CDM1250 VHF adding Extras

Hi all, I'm on a vol. fire department that has just decided to start up a transporting squad within our township. Long story short, we use VHF for all communications between dispatch and hospital. Now, our CDM 1250 that has the hospital programmed in is located in the front of the squad. I need to know how to be able to hook up a second mike, and speaker in the back for the medic to do hospital reports en route.
I have an older style Midland telephone mike, and speaker that is in one of the old squads our department had.
What is needed to do this project, and is the midland compatible? Didn't know if it would just because of a name on it. I have attempted to do some googleing, but im not sure what im looking for so its hard to do the research.

A few thoughts...

If you look around enough, you'll find information on a remote head/dual head kit for the CDM. They are very problematic and expensive. I would avoid it.

You can run and extension speaker and mic (a headset is pretty common to do this with) using the accessory connector on the back of the radio. Here's the pinout from batlabs:
1- Speaker-
2- Ext. Mic
5- Flat TX Audio
7- GND
10- Ignition
11- RX Audio
13- Switched B+
16- Speaker+

I would really look into a headset interface. David clark is a good brand and used in aviation and public safety circles.

The other option is obvious. Installing a second radio in the alternate location.

Go for the second radio.......if the front one goes down you have a back up.....this is what our town did....

And if you go for a second radio, be sure to keep the antennas far enough apart to not mess up each other.

I think this is the idea we all had in mind. As for alot of the other squads running they only use the one radio. And with money issues at this time, I just dont think buying another radio would be an option. A privet company that transports just has the driver select the hospital freq. and the medic gives the report.

Is this the connector that you are talking about? And if so, I would just plug it into the back of the CDM and attach longer wires, and wire in the ex mic and telephone? Thanks for the input and replys!

It looks that cable only provides an external speaker and an ignition wire. You might be able to open the connector and solder in the mic wires, but that's a lot of work.

On that page the "3017" is the adapter that plugs into the radio (the pic is a basic representation and not reflective of the actual connector on the radio) and the "300" is the head set. You would also need to purchase the necessary extension cables to get the headset to the rear. The adapter has a ptt button on it giving the rear operator complete control of the unit. The only thing I would double check (with the manufacturer) is if this renders the front panel of the radio useless to the front operator. I'm not sure if it does or not.
