If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello,

I have a question on using the Vertex CE-142 software to program an EVX-5400. I'm not new to programming radios but this is the first Vertex I have tried to program.

I have the CE-142 software opened up, and I don't see anywhere to enter channel information. Is there something I am missing to be able to display the channel information? I assume the big empty box is where the information should be displaying.

Attached is a screenshot of what it is that I see. I have tried on two different computers running Windows 7. That is the only OS I have gotten it to work on. In Windows 10 it just closes as soon as it opens.

Your knowledge is greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Jason

Typically in the Vertex Standard software, you have to go to Group or Channel, then click allocations, and put in number of channels in the zone/group:

Quick tip, put 16 in every group you have. If you put 4 in the first, then 16 in the second, when you add more than 4 to the first, it pulls them from the second group and adds blank ones at the end of the second, i.e., any channels you put in, they are listed in order forever, and changes are a pain in the butt.

Hello,

Reading and writing to the radio seems to be working fine. I can edit and write general radio settings. (Like display color)

The option to open the Channel Allocation did absolutely nothing. So I suspected it was maybe a software issue or something.

I was using version 1.20 downloaded from MOL. I went back and looked and saw there was a version 1.19 available. Downloaded and installed and now I have channel information available!
