Allowing high-speed Internet access and cell phone use on planes could offer cash-strapped airline companies a new source for revenues, said Doug Wills, spokesman for the Air Transport Association, the major airlines' trade group.

OK, so if the seat back phones are too expensive to use, what makes people think that the in seat wireless internet will be any cheaper.

And, since any "in-air" cell phone use will need to work through a micro-cell on the plane, and would also have to carry some airline charges and profits.

FCC Chairman Michael Powell was on Fox News and what was announced was just the FCC rules possibly being relaxed. The FCC feels that ground interference issues have been solved with advances in technology. It would still be up to the FAA to decide on the onboard aircraft issues.

Hating a reglatory agency without giving any thought to a better way to regulate the industry is kind of pointless!

See I don't like the way they have done things. For one, the whole nexthell bs. I'm sure you are familiar with. Also the fact that the F.C.C has allowed this so called low power frequency use and because of it there will be interference problems (sound familiar) with the military Because it is going to use it's frequency with higher power which happens to be the same as our garage doors. What the hell for don't they have enough RF spectrum. Another act for concern for me is that the F.C.C is not going to regulate the slim and filth of satillite radio. It wont surprise me if theres a Jerry springer channel. Another cause of my dislike is this trunking digital mubo jumbo. This is a reglatory agency? Ha

There is simply to much crap associated with the F.C.C. Including the other federal departments. There is a lot of lobbying going on theres a lot of corruption. I think this is the same for the F.B.I or the C.I.A, I.R.S, I.N.S you name it.

One day when the glass of lies finally over flows there will be the true nature of there actions. As what happened at the U.N. had we not went to Iraq there would not have been an oil for food scandal and everything would have been business as usual.

I'm not a stupid person I know a lot of things. To me every thing is a puzzle only a mater of time before you put all or most of the pieces together. Read signature.

Ok now you know my F.C.C dislike. Sounds a little anti goverment but it's the TRUTH :shock:

So you want MORE government regulation?

I don't know many in the industry who think "That" is the answer.

I would certainly like to see teh FCC take a deaper technical and longer term view on some of the decisions thay make.

On the other hand, I would lik eto see them extend their control carfully, as excessive government control and "planning" of a society has been fairly conclusevely shown to be the WRONG way to go.

Now as we drift from Radio to social/ecconomic models of society, we should probably close this thread.
