CENTENNIAL - Investigators say fireworks started a house fire Saturday afternoon.
Witnesses told firefighters a firework got into a tree and sparked a fire, which then spread to the outside of a home in the 5800 block of South Quintero Court.
Cunningham Fire Rescue got a call about the fire around 2:30 p.m. When crews arrived, the roof was on fire. Firefighters were able to put the fire out before it made its way into the interior, but damage to the outside is said to be extensive. Damage is estimated at $100,000.
Investigators from Cunningham Fire and the Arapahoe County Sheriff's office are trying to determine the type of fireworks involved and the persons responsible. Using fireworks in the city limits of Aurora, Centennial and Denver is illegal. If fireworks start fires, that can result in arson charges for those using the fireworks whether they are legal or not.
