The Southside Va. Training Center Petersburg has closed. It was the first of the four training centers scheduled to close as part of a statewide plan for these facilities. The Northern Va. Training Center Fairfax will close 20 Jun 2015. The Southwestern Va. Training Center Hillsville will close by 30 Jun 2018. The Central Va. Training Center Lynchburg will close by 30 Jun 2020. Only the Southeastern VA Training Center in Chesapeake will remain open. All have state licensed radio operations.

Curious as to who the extremely strong repeater user was on 155.4900 mhz., pl 91.5, I checked my directory and had annotated 18 months ago this facility was the first to close as a result of a Justice Dept./court ruling mandating that the state also close other specific related facilities in a phased closeout/consolidation plan.

For whatever reason(s), 18 months later the Southside Va. Training facility is operating like the defacto confinement facility it is. The SSVT Facility is located less than 1/4 mile from Central State Hospital, Petersburg. The guards have only HTs for comms. The very few comms today included..... wards....dining rooms open (2 dining rooms).....visitor.....full head count...have permission to use hallway....etc. The comms typically are few and infrequent.
